One of the great civilizing elements at the apartments were the outdoor clotheslines adjacent to the community laundry rooms. When these began to fall into disrepair it was a sign that the end was near.

I lived in San Diego's Leisure Life Apartments for nearly 20 years. I had to move in May 2009 as the entire complex was slated for demolition. Leisure Life was home to many new immigrants, seniors, and others qualifying for rental assistance for one reason or another- a lively place. It was eerie seeing the apartments empty out one by one. I was one of the last to leave. This blog is a place to show the photos I took during the final month, and any subsequent as the site is rebuilt.
